The Pars foundation are delighted to have been selected by the Co-Op to receive funding for new kit for the DAFC Walking Football team

The Pars foundation are delighted to have been selected by the Co-Op to receive funding for new kit for the DAFC Walking Football team who took to the pitch in their new it for the first time on Saturday 24th June at the Scottish National Walking Football Tournament at Glasgow Green Football Centre. The funding has been received through the Co-Op’s Local Community Fund, which allows Co-Op members to pick one of three charities local to their store to receive 1% of their spend on Co-Op purchases. With some of the funding already going to purchase new strips and training bibs for the DAFC Walking Football team, The Pars Foundation will be looking to purchase further training aides to help in the development of the team in a growing national sport. The teams first outing in their new kit saw them progress through to the quarter finals of the national tournament in Glasgow with a 100% record where they were eliminated by the eventual winners Midlothian. Gregor Tennant of the Pars Foundation said “With this being the team’s first outing together and making it to the quarter finals in a tournament the future looks bright for DAFC’s walking footballers. The support from the Co-Op made the players look and feel professional, which was noticed by all participants in a tournament that brought together walking footballers from all over Scotland. We would like to thank the Co-Op and all their customers in Dunfermline for making this possible.” If you are over 35yrs old and would like to try walking football the Pars Foundation have a session on a Monday night at Queen Anne High School at 6pm open to all abilities, to play in tournaments you must be 50yrs+ but it truly is a great sport that provides a controlled cardio workout.
