The Pars Foundation Schools Engagement Programme continues to grow having reached over 1800 children in Dunfermline and the surrounding areas during 2019. 1300 of which took part in the `Pars Tackle Health` programme.
Pars Tackle Health aims to promote positive attitudes towards good health and fitness in primary school children, using professional footballers as role models. It helps to consolidate the Learning Outcomes covered in Health & Wellbeing, throughout their Primary School education.
Two DAFC players and a coach from the Pars Foundation visit each participating primary school, accompanied by former schoolteachers, Gennaro Giudice and Sandy Wyse who coordinate the workshops and introduces the players.394 children also took part in the `Pars Stars in the Media` programme.
Pars Stars in the Media aims to develop a range of literacy skills using football as a stimulus.
Ex-Primary School Depute Head Teacher, Wullie Oliphant, and a coach from the Pars Foundation Team take the session and begin by looking at newspaper reports of Pars games. An initial report is analysed by pupils and agreement reached that it needs to be up-levelled. This is then studied in greater detail as the pupils note the WOW! words that have been added.
Further football based activities take place including match commentary and interview skills before heading out of class for small sided games.148 pupils from five different classes from four schools have also visited East End Park as part of our `Tours for Schools` programme.
Tours for Schools’ gives children the opportunity to learn about the wider employment related aspects in the world of football including business, accounting, retail, hospitality, physiotherapy, media and maintenance.
Former school teacher, Dave Dawson and DAFC Staff welcome pupils to a “behind the scenes” tour of East End Park, with a focus on the range of jobs, skills and personal qualities needed for employability and the world of work.
